The US. Probation Office, District of Puerto Rico works towards facilitating long-term positive changes in our persons under supervision through proactive interventions and facilitating the services needed.  In order to protect our community, giving our persons under supervision the required tools to succeed while adjusting to the community, we provide and arrange the following services:

  • Mental Health Evaluation and/or Treatment: Services are provided by an approved mental health treatment program.  After evaluation, a report as to the services recommended is provided by the program.   If deemed necessary, the treatment will be arranged by the officer in consultation with the treatment provider; the modality, duration, and intensity of treatment will be based on the risks and needs identified.
  • Substance Abuse Testing and Treatment: Services are provided by an approved substance abuse monitoring and/or treatment services program.  Persons under supervision shall refrain from the unlawful use of controlled substances and submit to drug test during the supervision period.  If deemed necessary, treatment services will be arranged by the officer in consultation with the treatment provider.
  • Sex Offender Treatment: Persons convicted of a sex offense should undergo a sex-offense-specific evaluation and/or participate in a sex offender treatment program arranged by the Probation Officer. They should abide by all rules, requirements, and conditions of the sex offender treatment program, including submission to testing, such as polygraph, and/or any other testing available at the time of his release.
  • Polygraph Examinations: Persons convicted of a sex offense will be required to submit to an initial polygraph examination and subsequent maintenance testing intervals to be determined by the probation office to assist in treatment planning and case monitoring and as a means to ensure that they are in compliance with the requirements of their supervision or treatment program.

All these services are provided by approved vendors, contracted by the U.S. Probation Office, District of Puerto Rico.  In occasions, persons under supervision might be required to contribute to the costs of services rendered, by means of co-payment, based on their ability to pay or availability of third-party payment.
